More often than not, we are presented with a simplified CardioVascular model like the picture on the left.
But take this excerpt from Move Your DNA by Katy Bowman, M.S. and appreciate the wonderful complexities through which our bodies work:
“The capillary system is so prolific, most cells in your body (and there are 100 trillion of them) are within 50 micrometers of a capillary. Don’t have your micrometer handy? A human hair is about 70 micrometers thick, which means almost every cell in your body is within a few hair-widths’ distance from a capillary.”
In reality, our bodies are far more similar to the picture on the right. Fascinating, isn't it!?
