Be wary of that sweet tooth (especially post-Halloween)!
This study augmented the diet composition of 43 children aging between 9-18 years old. They replaced all “added sugars”, the extra sweeteners food companies put into their food, with carbohydrates. This substitution kept the subjects’ weight and overall calorie intake the same.
After ONLY 9 days of this protocol, the average subjects’ “bad” LDL cholesterol dropped by 10 points, diastolic blood pressure fell 5 points, triglycerides dropped by 33 points, and their fasting blood sugar and insulin levels improved.
Researchers are continuing to study the relationship between added sugar intake and metabolic disease, but it is fairly clear: decreasing one’s added sugar intake, while incorporating well-rounded meals, increased water consumption, and routine exercise expenditure ALL lead to an overall healthier lifestyle!
